Municipal Court: Fix it Tickets

Certain tickets require that you fix equipment on your car. If you received a Fix It Ticket brochure when you got your ticket, you may be eligible for our Fix It Ticket program.

If you make the correction before the time you are scheduled to appear in court and show the correction to a police officer at the Police Department, the Violations Bureau may be able to dismiss your ticket for a $60 administrative fee. You may not need to go to court.

Only the violations listed below qualify. Here are some details and tips to bring your vehicle in compliance with the violations. The complete language of each law is found in Chapter 800 of the Oregon Vehicle Code.

Altered License Plates (ORS 803.550 Subsection (2) (b) and (c) only).

  • Any material or covering, other than a frame or plate holder, placed on, over or in front of the plate that alters the appearance of the plate is illegal. Any frame or plate holder that obscures the numbers, letters, or registration stickers, so as to render them unreadable is illegal.

Expired Drivers License (ORS 807.010), but only if within 30 days of the expiration date.

  • Your driver's license expires on your birthday a predetermined number of years from the issuance date. Renew your license by contacting DMV to obtain a new license or an extension sticker with a valid expiration date.

Expired Vehicle Registration Stickers (ORS 803.455 & 803.560 subsection (1) (b) only).

  • The registrant stickers expire on a predetermined date. Obtain current validation stickers by contacting DMV.

Failure to Display License Plates (ORS 803.540)

  • If only one license plate is issued to a vehicle, such as motorcycles, the license plate must be displayed on the rear of the vehicle. If two license plates are issued to a vehicle, a plate must be displayed in plain view so to be read easily by the public on the front and rear of the vehicle.

Failure to Change Name/Address on Driver's License (ORS 807.560).

  • You must notify DMV within 30 days of your name and/or address changing. Contact DMV and complete a change of name/address form.

Failure to Change Name/Address on Vehicle Registration (ORS 803.220).

  • You must notify DMV within 30 days of your name and/or address changing. Contact DMV and complete a change of name/address form.

Failure to Maintain Safety Belt in Working Order (ORS 811.225).

  • The registered owner of a vehicle must maintain all safety belts or safety harnesses in a condition that will enable all occupants of all seating positions equipped with safety belts or safety harnesses to use the belts or harnesses.

Lighting Equipment Violation (ORS 816.300, 816.330 & 816.360).
Passenger vehicles must be equipped with the following equipment in proper working order:

  • Two white headlights.
  • Two red tail lights.
  • One white rear registration plate light.
  • Two red brake lights.
  • Two front turn signals (white or amber)
  • Two rear turn signals (red, amber or yellow)
  • Two red rear reflectors.

Improper Fenders and or Mudguards (815.185)

  • Fenders and mudguards must extend in full width from a point on the wheels that is above and forward of the center of the tire over a point at the rear of the wheel that is not more than 10 inches above the surface of the highway for most motor trucks weighing 8,000 pounds or more, most trailers, and commercial buses, and not more than 27 inches above the surface of the highway for most other vehicles. This requirement is applicable to each axle and tire.

Procedure to Follow

  1. Correct the violation in order to be in compliance with the law.
  2. If you are the person cited, you must appear at the McMinnville Police Department during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for certain holidays. You must appear no later than 5 p.m. the business day prior to your scheduled court appearance listed on the citation. You must bring with you valid state photo identification, your copy of the citation, and, if it was an equipment violation, the vehicle listed in the citation.
  3. The vehicle or item will be inspected for compliance. If the vehicle or item is within compliance, the citation will be stamped and signed by an authorized person.
  4. You must then take the citation to the Violations Bureau at McMinnville City Hall. This must be done during normal business hours and prior to the deadline mentioned above. Your driving record will be reviewed. If you are eligible for a dismissal, you must pay an administrative fee before the citation will be dismissed.

This procedure must be completed prior to your scheduled court appearance as listed on the citation.

Notice: You are only eligible for this program if you have not been convicted of or had the same violation dismissed by the Violations Bureau previously.

Warning: If you do not handle the violation through he Violations Bureau before the assigned court date and time, you must appear at the assigned court date and time; otherwise, a finding of Failure to Appear will be entered on your record.
