The McMinnville Police Department conducts a Citizens Police Academy each spring. This next academy will begin on March 31, 2010 and run through May 26, 2010. The class will meet Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm until 9:30pm, and four Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Qualified graduates of the academy are eligible for 6 college credit hours through Chemeketa Community College. Here is the schedule for this year:

REVISED Class Schedule 2010

The 48-hour training program consists of classroom and "hands-on" instruction. Topics covered include traffic enforcement, narcotic investigations, use of force (including firearms and defensive tactics), communications, crime scene investigations, the legal system and many other topics.

If you have always wondered what it would be like to be a police officer, or work in the law enforcement field, come and join the Citizens’ Police Academy. The academy is free to the public. Preference will be given to McMinnville residents, and people employed or doing business in the City of McMinnville.

We hope the graduates of the Citizen’s Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the Police Department operates, and will encourage friends, coworkers and families to join the McMinnville Police Department in this rewarding program.
