Public Works & Park Maintenance: Pruning Guidelines

In an effort to make the City safer to pedestrians and vehicular traffic, the following landscaping hazards are not allowed.

  • Trees and shrubs that overhang into the street past the curb and lack a clearance height of 11 feet.
  • Trees and shrubs obscuring street and traffic signs.
  • Trees and shrubs overhanging sidewalks lacking a clearance of 9 feet.
  • Trees and shrubs obscuring clear vision areas of intersections. Plants in clear vision areas should not exceed 2 1/2 feet in height. Trees exceeding this height may remain provided branches are removed to a height of 8 feet above ground.

Public Works crews can remedy these hazards by trimming trees and shrubs. Residents with questions or concerns should contact the Department of Public Works at 503-434-7316 during business hours (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
