Storm Drain Awarness
In an effort to increase awareness of what goes into our local streams and rivers, the City of McMinnville is placing curbside markers next to storm drains.  As part of Linfield College’s Make a Difference Day event on October 20, Linfield students canvassed neighborhoods to help the City with its awareness program.  Additional information about Make a Difference Day is available on Linfield’s website here.

Storm drains empty directly into Cozine Creek, the South Yamhill River or Baker Creek.  This means that anything including fertilizers and toxic household products poured into storm drains along with any other debris that rain water picks up from the streets flow directly into these waterways without any treatment.

You can help by:

  • sweeping sidewalks, driveways, and patios instead of hosing them down;
  • washing your car on the lawn or gravel areas using non-toxic low phosphate cleansers;
  • not over-watering your lawn;
  • recycling motor oil and antifreeze; and / or
  • not dumping debris into streams or ditches.
