Coaches Page

Here you will find information that you need to know to coach for the City of McMinnville Parks and Recreation.

Our Vision for playing:

Positive Coaching

  • Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.  A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so we encourage them to create a positive experience for every player.

Everyone Plays

  • Our goal is for kids to play.  So every player on every team plays every game.  It's no fun to spend the game on the bench and that's no way to learn a sport!

Open Registration

  • Our program is open to all children of the appropriate age who want to register and play soccer, basketball, softball or baseball.  There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut.

Good Sportsmanship

  • We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win at all cost attitude.  Our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in players, parents and coaches.

Player Development

  • We believe that all players should be able to develop their athletic skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Concussions

NFHS: Sports-related concussion in high school sports can be serious or even life-threatening situations if not managed correctly. National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have teamed up to provide information and resources to help educate coaches, officials, parents and students on the importance of proper concussion recognition and management in high school sports.

Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports is a free, online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. It features interviews with leading experts, dynamic graphics and interactive exercises, and compelling storytelling to help you recognize a concussion and know how to respond if you think that your athlete might have a concussion.

Once you complete the training and quiz, you can print out a certificate, making it easy to show your league or school you are ready for the season.

What Will I Learn in this Training?

This course will help you:

  • Understand a concussion and the potential consequences of this injury,
  • Recognize concussion signs and symptoms and how to respond,
  • Learn about steps for returning to activity (play and school) after a concussion, and
  • Focus on prevention and preparedness to help keep athletes safe season-to-season.

How Often Do I Need to Take This Training?

The city of McMinnville REQUIRES every coach to complete the training once a year.
