Honor Guard Program

The McMinnville Police Department’s Honor Guard was established in 2008. The six members of the Honor Guard detail wear specially designed, formal uniforms that pay tribute to the national and state flags they bear. The personal discipline of each member, combined with training, ensures crisp, clean movements in unison as they move in military fashion during processions.

The Honor Guard represents the Police Department at ceremonies that require the national and state flags to venerate the event and preserve traditions. The Honor Guard posts colors at agency and public events, including graduation and commencement ceremonies, parades, and other ceremonies deemed appropriate by command staff. A Color Guard detail consists of four or five individuals whose purpose is to guard, carry, and post the national and state flags at formal functions.

The Honor Guard also participates in formal public memorial services, funeral services for dignitaries and active or retired members of the agency, as well as line of duty deaths of both agency members and law enforcement officers from other jurisdictions.

If you have an event in which the Honor Guard may be of assistance in presenting the national colors or performing a flag folding ceremony in tribute, please contact the police department at (503) 434-7307. Please include the event date, time, and location, the sponsoring organization, the role you would like the honor guard to fill, and also the name of the person we can contact for more information
