Flags for Our Veterans

Flags for our Veterans

During a recent death investigation, a McMinnville police officer discovered that the deceased was a veteran. In an effort to show respect, both to the deceased veteran and to the surviving family, this officer left the scene, purchased a national flag and returned to the residence. The flag was placed respectfully over the deceased veteran for the transport from the residence to the funeral home. Based on the appreciation of the family and our desire to recognize our veterans and their families, the McMinnville Police Department made the decision to start its Flags for Our Veterans program.

Partnering with local businesses, organizations, and the community, this program shall make every effort to provide, at no cost, a national flag for our deceased veterans. The flag will be respectfully placed over the deceased veteran during the initial transportation from the place of death to the funeral home. Once at the funeral home, the flag will be refolded and presented to the veteran’s family along with a condolence card.

We encourage the family to fly this flag proudly in recognition of all veterans who served or are serving our country.
